Children's Health

Recently, it came to my attention that not only are we more stressed out by all the rush, technology and environment but so are our children.  What affects us, affects them as well.

First, we need to try to slow it down a bit.  If your kids are not invovled in an activity every single day, it's not a bad thing.  They need balance just like we do so don't push them through a dozen sports, lessons, projects or groups.  Give them a break and yourself one as well.  I suggest at the very least, one night a week where NOTHING is planned and have a family night.  Hang out, talk/listen and just enjoy each other.

Second, just like us, they need a balanced diet and multivitamin.  If they are still tired, stressed, irritable, etc see a doctor first to rule out any medical conditions.  Then find out what natural supplements will help them.

Third, I can't stress enough the aromatherapy for the health of children.  It's non-evasive and can offer a great deal of benefits.

Finally, it's not just fast foods and video game abuse that lead to obesity.  It's a proven fact that stress and fatigue lend themselves to overeating and obesity in kids and adults, alike.

OBESITY
"Take lavender, jasmine, patchouli or ylang-ylang to help you calm down before you eat your regular meal plan. These essential oils will relax and improve your emotional well-being." (http://www.aromatherapy-at-home.com/aromatherapy-for-stress.html)

STRESS
"

To Use: You can put this blend into a warm bath or sauna, in a diffuser, or just put in a spray bottle to use as a room spray that has a bit more power.
For massage you can add 2 drop each of Cedar, Clary Sage, Ylang Ylang, and Lavender into 2 ounces of lotion or carrier oil, and enjoy a relaxing massage." (http://www.aromatherapy-at-home.com/aromatherapy-for-stress.html)

FATIGUE
Essential oils for energy: cinnamon, clove, cypress, eucalyptus, fir, ginger, lemon, lemongrass, peppermint, rosemary

Aromatherapy for Energy
This invigorating massage oil or soak can help put a bounce back in your step.

Pick-Me-Up Combo
  • 8 drops lemon oil
  • 2 drops eucalyptus oil
  • 2 drops peppermint oil
  • 1 drop cinnamon leaf oil
  • 1 drop cardamom oil (expensive, so optional)
  • 2 ounces vegetable oil
Combine the ingredients. Use as a massage oil, add 2 teaspoons to your bath, or add 1 teaspoon to a footbath. Without the vegetable oil, this combination can be used in an aromatherapy diffuser, simmering pan of water, or a potpourri cooker -- or it can be added to 2 ounces of water for an air spray. The cardamom oil is optional, but, oh, does it enhance this massage oil! Use it as often as you like.

I have, personally, found that massaging my son's back, legs and arms before bed is relaxing to him.  Add aromatherphy massage and you will have a happier, healthier kid in the long run.  All good habits start with Mom and Dad so step up and get them in the habit of taking care of themselves now.
